Did you know jack-o’-lanterns were named after the phenomenon of strange light flickering over peat bogs, called “ignis fatuus” (or jack-o’-lantern). Here’s a traditional Irish halloween Jack-o’-lantern from the early 20th century on display in the Museum of Country Life, Ireland;
